This is Bryan and Karen DeJong's home in Baxter. This home was constructed in 2006. It is about 2500 s.f. on the main floor and a full basement with 2100 s.f. of finish down there (so the conditioned space is a little more than 5000 s.f.).
The electricity for this home is provided by Consumers Energy and they have a program that allows for separate metering of the heating/lighting loads. For the 2007 calendar year this home averaged $67.00 per month for heating, cooling, and water heating. Both thermostats are set at 71 degrees day and night and they can sit comfortably in the basement family room and watch television.
This is a GeoComfort 4 ton Serenity unit with a 5-ton vertical loop field and system zoning to provide separate thermostatic control on each level of the home. The Serenity unit is also utilized to provide a percentage of the homes hot water requirements, with Marathon electrics providing the balance of the hot water load.
This is a new construction with a recently installed geothermal system. There is approximately 8,000 s.f. of conditioned space including the basement and 4 car garage areas.
GeoComfort equipment was utilized here, a 5-ton Serenity water to air unit to provide heating for the main and second floors and cooling for the entire home, this unit is installed with zoning and 3 thermostats to provide control on each level of the home, this machine has a desuper heater to provide a percentage of the hot water for the home, it supplements twin 80 gallon Marathon electric water heaters.
The second piece of equipment is a 3.5-ton Premier water to water unit with a B & D buffer tank and a 4-zone floor heat system with 3 thermostats in the basement and the 4th in the garage. The equipment loop field is common to both machines and is 8-ton and horizontally bored. Fresh air for the home is provided and stale air is exhausted through a Lennox HRV-150 air to air heat recovery ventilator.
This photo is of a Rinnai tankless water heater we installed in the Kountry Korner store for hand and dish washing, it is installed in an attic space above Bryan's office, it saves floor space and vents directly out the back wall so there is no need for a chimney. There is a key pad on the front of the unit to set the desired water temperature with a digital LED read out showing the setting. We just installed it in December '07 and so far is working great!
